Hear about exciting new research into the life of Pamela Sparhawk, a formerly enslaved Black woman who petitioned the Massachusetts General Court to be recognized as heir to her brother's estate. After more than a decade of bondage in Boston and Newton, Sparhawk was determined to build a life of her own in freedom. Now, more than 200 years later, careful sleuthing has uncovered her life story as well as information about her enslaved and free contemporaries in 18th century Newton and beyond. Made possible by a grant from the 400 Years of African American History Commission. Register here for this Zoom talk.
