Mental Health Resources
988 Crisis Support – If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, help is available. Call or text 988 to talk with a trained counselor or chat online.
Behavioral Health Help Line (BHHL) – If you are struggling with mental health or substance use, the new behavioral health helpline connects Massachusetts residents directly to clinical support where and when they need it. It’s free, available 24/7, and offers real-time interpretation in over 200 languages. Call or text 833-773-2445 or chat online.
Riverside Emergency Services - Riverside is a local resource that offers mobile crisis intervention. Call 800-529-5077 for support.
William James Interface Referral Services

This is a free, confidential referral service for individuals across the lifespan. Callers are matched with licensed mental health providers from our extensive database. Each referral meets the location, insurance, and specialty needs of the caller.

The Social Service case manager at the Newton Senior Center is committed to enhancing the quality of life for all Newton seniors. We offer comprehensive social work assessments, outreach services, and information and referral.
We can provide information about:
- Home Care Services that include assistance with house cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, grocery shopping, and personal care
- Fuel Assistance to help with heating costs; Utility Discounts for telephone, gas and electric bills
- Subsidized Apartments or other housing options, including long term care facility resources
- SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), which can help you pay for your groceries each month
- Confidential referrals to services to help you cope with issues such as retirement, aging, illness, bereavement, family relationships, etc.
- Commodity Supplemental Foods program for eligible seniors to receive 2 bags of shelf-stable groceries each month
- Applications to food pantries within Newton
- Caregiver Support for family members needing resources and support for the senior for whom they provide care

Commodity Foods Application
The Commodity Supplement Food program (CSFP) is sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture in partnerships with the States and local communities. In the Boston area, The Greater Boston Food Bank administers the program and works in partnership with the Newton Senior Center. CSFP works to improve the health of low income senior residents by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA foods.
To qualify, a participant must be 60 years of age or older, live in Newton, and meet income guidelines. Eligible residents will receive 2 free bags of groceries once a month (3rd Friday of the month 1-2pm) containing health shelf stable products.
