What is happening?
MassDOT is hosting a live virtual design public hearing to discuss the proposed design for Reconstruction of Commonwealth Ave (Route 30) from East of Auburn Street to Ash Street in Newton, MA. MassDOT welcomes your input for consideration in the design process.
How will this affect you?
We propose to reconstruct Route 30 (Commonwealth Avenue) and the adjacent carriageway with the goal of improving safety, accessibility, and multimodal connectivity. Design elements include a two-way separated bike lane on the north side and sidewalk construction on both sides; converting the carriageway west of Islington Road to exclusive pedestrian and bicycle facilities, with vehicles accessing Route 30 directly; circulation changes between Islington Road and Ash Street; reconfiguration of the Ash Street intersection; and enhancing crosswalk visibility with multiple pedestrian-activated rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs).
