Requests for Fire Detail

We do not accept detail requests by phone, you must submit a completed form in time to have a detail scheduled.

Some online permits have specialized Fire Detail Forms. We recommend you use the specific form to request your detail.
Please write clearly and legibly. Requests that are unreadable WILL NOT be filled.
Forms need to be emailed to fireprevention@newtonma.gov or faxed to 617-796-2239 NO LATER than 1 p.m. the business day before the detail.
Details for Monday need to be submitted the business day (Friday) before the detail.
Details for the day after a City Holiday need to be submitted the business day before the holiday. Holidays are listed within the Human Resources section of the City of Newton website.
Any detail cancelled within 24 hours of the detail shall be charged a 4-hour minimum.
Detail from 0-4 hours are billed as 4 hours. Details from 4-8 hours are billed as 8 hours. Details longer than 8 hours are billed hourly
Detail forms submitted without a valid Fire Permit number listed will be rejected.
Details for expired permits will be rejected.

As of July 1, 2024 the following Detail Rates Apply:

Hourly rate: $82.50/ hr. / firefighter
Weekends or detail hours between 6PM and 8AM: Additional $20.00 / hr. / firefighter
Supervisor (one (1) required for every four (4) firefighters): Additional $20.00 / hr. / supervisor
Holiday Details shall be paid at time and a half of the regular posted rates above.

As of March 10, 2022 through June 30, 2024 the following Detail Rates Apply:

Hourly rate: $77.00 / hr. / firefighter
Weekends, Holidays, or detail hours between 6PM and 8AM: Additional $15.00 / hr. / firefighter
Supervisor (one (1) required for every four (4) firefighters): Additional $20.00 / hr. / supervisor
