PUBLIC ASSISTANCE
The Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps, is available to income-eligible residents. You can check eligibility, apply online and learn more HERE.
The Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) is warning residents of skimming scams that have impacted some DTA clients who receive SNAP benefits. To learn more about skimming and how to protect your benefits, visit the DTA site Protect Your Benefits from Skimming.
EBT Card to Culture Program: The DTA has partnered with Mass Cultural Council to offer FREE or discounted admissions to many of the Commonwealth’s museums and cultural institutions. Show your EBT card for entry. Click HERE to learn more.
Residents who have SNAP benefits are also eligible for the Healthy Incentive Program (HIP) to access FREE produce. When a resident uses their EBT card to purchase fresh produce at a HIP vendor, they are automatically reimbursed for the cost on their card. The Newton Farmer’s Market is a HIP vendor! Learn more about HIP.
You can also use your SNAP and HIP benefits at Red Fire Farm this summer! Click HERE to learn more about their programs.
