The ABCD (Action for Boston Community Development, Inc.) Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as Fuel Assistance, provides financial assistance to income-eligible households for heating bills.

NEW APPLICANTS can now apply online for the 2024-2025 heating season or call Newton Social Services at 617-796-1420 to fill out a paper application.

RETURNING APPLICANTS should have received recertification paperwork in the mail.

Who Qualifies?

ABCD follows federal guidelines for LIHEAP (the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) based on your annual income and how many people are in your family. The program is available to homeowners and renters even if you live in non-subsidized housing with heat included in your rent. Your gross family income must be at or below 60% of the Massachusetts median income.

All Newton residents can receive support with their application from the Newton Social Services Division. Call 617-796-1420 with questions or to schedule an appointment.
