Community College: Two-year schools that provide affordable postsecondary education as a pathway to a career or four-year degree program. Community colleges offer associate degree programs, certificate programs and professional development courses both on campus and on-line. Additionally, community colleges offer a more flexible schedule with day and evening classes. MassBay Community College located in Wellesley is the most affordable college in MetroWest, offering 60 two-year associate degree and one-year certificate programs in person and online.
MassTransfer Program: A college transfer program that connects Community College students to Massachusetts State Universities and the University of Massachusetts campuses. The traditional MassTransfer program provides students with guaranteed admission pathways to state universities and University of Massachusetts campuses at any point of their enrollment with the community college.

Independent agency of the United States government that engages individuals in service through a variety of stipend volunteer work programs across the United States. Volunteers work full-time for a year and in return receive housing, a living allowance, and college tuition assistance. Below are AmeriCorps programs in the Newton area:
- City Year (Boston) AmeriCorps members serve in schools and supports students’ social, emotional, and academic development while also providing schools with additional capacity to enhance learning.
- United Way AmeriCorps (Salem, Lynn, Gloucester) fellows play a critical role in supporting multilingual learners academically, socially and emotionally, providing individualized support to communities with growing multilingual population through one to one and small group SEL interventions.
