Home MenuYouth Risk Behavior Survey
Newton Public Schools and the Newton Department of Health and Human Services conducts the Youth Risk Behavior Survey every other academic year with students in grades 6 through 12. The Youth Risk Behavior Survey is largely based on the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, which monitors six categories of health-related behaviors which includes mental health, sexual behaviors, alcohol and drug use, tobacco use, dietary behaviors, and physical activity.
The results of the YRBS are utilized by community leaders, school district leaders and community agencies to plan and evaluate their policies and programming while developing and enhancing effective ways to support young people. The information can also help parents understand challenges that their children face.
