Gath Memorial Pool is Newton's Outdoor Summer Swimming Pool. Operated by the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department, Gath Pool is open seasonally each Summer.

Newton Splash Pad Policies

Enjoy the Splash Pad! Have fun!

To use the Splash Pad features, locate the Activator Pole and place hand on sensor

Please keep the park entrance gate closed

An adult must accompany children under age 12

Swim diapers and a waterproof diaper liner are required for anyone not toilet trained

This splash pad uses treated, recirculated water; DO NOT DRINK THE WATER

As the splash pad is unsupervised, please use at your own risk

Leave at first sound of thunder or flash of lighting

Street shoes, cleats and heels are prohibited as they damage the splash pad; wear sandals, water shoes, flip flops or go barefoot

Prohibited Activities

• No smoking/vaping of tobacco, marijuana, or similar products
• No alcohol, glass, food or drinks
• No wheeled vehicles, bikes, skateboards, roller blades; (strollers, walkers, wheelchairs welcome)
• No horseplay
• No profane language
• No athletic equipment, balls, bats, beach balls, noodles, etc.
• No climbing on play features or other structures
• No forcing of any foreign objects into Splash Pad equipment and/or drains
• No bathing, soap, detergent or shampoo
• No pets or animals
• No amplified music
• No using the splash pad with open cuts, sores, infections, communicable disease, or diarrhea

Large organized groups including daycares, preschools and camps should call the Gath Pool front desk before arriving to ensure sufficient space on the splash pad.

FAQs

Who needs to purchase a membership?

 ALL PATRONS entering the facility must have a membership or purchase a day pass. Access to the facility includes using the locker rooms, splash pad, pools and deck. 

 
Do I need a membership for my children participating in swim lessons?
Yes, all participants must have a Summer Membership.


Where do I pickup my membership scan card?
You will pick up your scan card at your first visit to the facility. See the front desk and bring proof of ID such as license, household bill, school transcript, etc.

Can I buy a membership for my nanny/caregiver?
Yes, simply add them to your account as a household member.

What is the refund policy?
All Aquatics purchases are final and there no refunds. Scan cards are non-transferable.

My child is not a Newton resident but goes to Newton Public Schools. Do they qualify for the child resident rate?
Yes. Bring proof of enrollment to the front desk and we can issue a membership.

My child is enrolled in a Parks & Rec Summer Camp that includes a swim membership. How do I get their scan card?
Visit the front desk to pick up their scan card.

Daily passes are available for purchase at the Gath Pool front desk. A Day Pass allows for access during Open Swim Hours. Cash, Check, and major credit cards are accepted. Proof of Newton Residency required for the resident rate.

• All patrons entering the facility will check in with the front desk. Membership holders must scan their card each time as they enter the facility. Any patron entering the facility must either have a membership or purchase a day pass. Exceptions include those observing a swim lesson or swim meet/practice. 

• In the event of thunder or lightening, the pools & splash pad will close for 30 minutes from the last clap of thunder or sight of lightening. For the safety of all patrons, the manager will clear the pool, deck, and showers immediately.

• Children must be fully toilet trained OR wear a commercially produced reusable swim diaper AND a rubber diaper over as a top layer to swim to prevent fecal accidents.

• No alcoholic beverages or glass containers allowed anywhere in the pool facility.

• If you need to store your stroller while using the facility, please do so in the designated stroller parking area

• No outside chairs or umbrellas allowed into the facility. These items are prohibited due to the possibility of wind-blown injury and obstruction of Lifeguard supervision of the pool. Chairs, shade structures and benches are available around the deck

• Floats, toys, noodles, inflatables, etc. are not permitted to ensure a comfortable experience for all swimmers and ensure proper Lifeguard surveillance of the pools. Lifejackets are available upon request.

• No running anywhere on the Pool Deck, Splash Pad or Bathhouse Area.

• No pushing, shoving, or wrestling allowed anywhere on the deck or in the pool

• The use of tobacco/drugs including smoking and vaping is prohibited

• The use of a United States Coast Guard approved type 1, 2 or 3 Personal Floatation Device is allowed. Children must be accompanied their parent or guardian while wearing a lifejacket. Remember, lifejackets are not a substitute for proper adult supervision.

• On particularly busy or hot days, the Manager on Duty may initiate safety breaks where all swimmers must clear the pools for 15 minutes. Safety breaks allow lifeguards a chance to rest their eyes and have a short break out of the sun. Children are also unaware how fatigued and dehydrated they become from constant swimming. The safety break allows them to rest, replenish fluids, and rebuild oxygen levels in their bodies.

• In order to use the Diving Boards, children must pass a deep-water test once per summer. To pass, the swimmer must be able to competently jump into 5ft of water and swim 25 yards using a crawl or breastroke with rhythmic breathing. The test is administered by Lifeguards by request or on a schedule during busy days. Lifeguards have final decision of successful completion. Swimmers who have passed the deep-water test should receive their wrist band from the front desk each time visiting the pool.

• Slide Rules: one person at a time, feet first entry only, wait at the bottom of the ladder until the rider in front of you reaches the wall. Slide may only be used when a Lifeguard is stationed.

• Diving Board Rules: one person at a time, feet first jump or traditional dives only, no double bouncing, no flips or spins. Wait at the bottom of the ladder until the person in front of you reaches the wall.

• The City of Newton strives to provide a comfortable experience for all visitors of the aquatic facilities. Newton Lifeguards have full discretion on the facility and pool area to provide a safe environment. Failure to adhere to Lifeguards may result in dismissal from the facility and/or revocation of membership. The management of the facility reserves the right to remove from participation any individual(s) deemed disruptive to the safe operation of the facility and/or causing a public disturbance.

• Lifeguards have an extremely important job of keeping swimmers safe. Please do not have conversations or distract lifeguards on duty unless it is an emergency. If you have general questions, please see the office. Please keep your distance from the Lifeguard stands.

• Proper bathing attire is required. No street clothes allowed in the pools.

• The manager on duty will make the final decision of closing time. There are several factors that will determine the safe hour of closing time including, but not limited to, sun position, natural light available, and clarity of the water.

• Children under the age of 12 MUST be always accompanied by an adult when visiting the facility. Children 12 and older may enter on their own and check in with the front desk.

• There are no refunds for summer memberships, day passes or swim lessons. All sales are final.
