City of Newton, MA
Home MenuIntegrated Pest Management
These pages are intended to inform and educate Newton’s residents on the City’s Integrated Pest Management policies and procedures. The Newton Parks, Recreation & Culture Department is planning to use herbicides on a portion of the athletic fields at Cabot Park, Forte Park and Weeks Field (Paul St side only) during the summer of 2024. Newton utilizes a formal Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach that outlines best practices for addressing pests. Pesticide use is part of a well-constructed IPM program that dictates when pesticide use is appropriate based on a variety of inputs including the location, intended use, degree of pest population and their impact on the utility of the asset.
