The basketball movement among older adults is exciting but not surprising. For some, it's an opportunity to exercise and socialize; for others, it's a once-denied chance to compete. Additionally, basketball provides a fun and competitive alternative to more traditional methods of fitness and weight loss.
And ladies, we can't let the guys have all the fun! Annual surveys by the National Sporting Goods Association indicate the number of women 55 and older who play basketball has grown tremendously over the years. Anyone interested in creating a league of our own? We can start easy with skills and drills!

What People Are Saying
"I have enjoyed participating in the Parks & Rec. Programs for seniors! I have lived in Newton for over 30 years, and since I have had no kids in the school system, I knew few people in the city except for my neighbors. The activities and trips that I have participated in has changed that, and added a wonderful richness to my life. Thank you for all you do to foster these programs and enrich the lives of seniors!"
