Mission Statement
The mission of the Newton Parks and Recreation Commission is to act in stewardship to enhance the quality of life for all citizens by providing the highest quality parks, recreation programs and recreation areas attainable and to preserve our natural areas for future generations. The Parks & Recreation Commission provides oversight and advice to the Mayor, City Council, and the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department regarding sports, recreation, parks, open space, and the preservation of scenic beauty throughout the city. The Commission attempts to balance the concerns of natural open space preservation and passive recreation with those of organized sports and active recreation by involving these and other interested parties in its planning, oversight, and decision making processes
