The City’s Urban Forest consists of all trees growing with in the boundaries of the community. Our focus is on the portion of the trees under the jurisdiction of the Division of Urban Forestry. This includes street trees and trees on school grounds, in parks and other City owned land.

Below are some facts regarding the City’s Street trees:

• Over 20,000 Street Trees
• 32% of the trees are in good condition
• 42% of the trees are in fair condition
• 26% of the trees are in poor condition
• 80% of trees are Maple trees
• 4% of trees are Linden trees
• 3% of trees are Honeylocust
• 3% of trees are Ornamental Pear
• 3% of trees are Ash
• 7% of trees are one of over 40 different varieties not listed above.
• 18% of the trees are 7 inches in diameter or less. 1 to 20 years old*
• 44% of the trees are 8 inches to 16 inches in diameter. 20 to 40 years old*
• 35% of the trees are 17 inches to 24 in diameter 40-60 years old*
• 3% of the trees are greater than 24 inches in diameter. 60+ years old*

*Age range is only approximate based on data collected in the field from trees that have been removed due to death and hazardous conditions.
