In December 2018, the City of Newton adopted zoning for all cannabis uses, including registered cannabis dispensaries and cannabis retailers. All cannabis uses require a signed Host Community Agreement and a Special Permit, in addition to a license from the state. In June 2023, the City of Newton adopted a new set of policies for its cannabis permitting program to further promote equity and encourage new social equity applicants to establish businesses in Newton.
