GoGo Newton offers subsidized rides to the following Newton residents, ages 18+:

  • Older Adults (age 65+)
  • People living with a disability 
  • People enrolled in an eligible local, state or federal public assistance program
  • Current NewMo riders, ages 60-64

The program offers three tiers of subsidy based on income. 

GoGo Newton Application Process 

Step 1. Make sure you're eligible

To apply for GoGo Newton, you must be a Newton resident age 18+ and meet at least one of the following conditions:

  • Age 65+ (or a recent NewMo user ages 60-64)
  • Very-low income
  • Disability
Step 2. Gather the required documents

To apply, you'll need documentation that shows:

  • Your date of birth
  • Your Newton address
  • Enrollment in a public assistance benefit program (if applicable)
  • Documentation of disability (if ages 18-64 and not receiving public assistance)
  • Tax return (if applicable)

What documents do I need to apply? 

Everyone who applies will need to show proof of age and Newton address. You may also need to show proof of receiving a public assistance benefit, proof of low income, or documentation of a disability.

 

Proof of Age (Age 18+, Age 60+ or Age 65+)

  • A government-issued photo ID, such as driver's license, passport, state ID, or another photo ID issued by a government agency. You can use an expired ID as long as the expiration date is within the last three years. 
  • Visa, residency, or immigration document

 

Proof of Address (Newton resident)

  • A government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, passport, state ID, or another photo ID issued by a government agency. Expired IDs will not be accepted. 
  • Utility or phone bill with your name, address, and issued within the last six months
  • Mortgage statement or signed lease agreement
  • Property tax statement
  • Bank statement, retirement statement, W-2, or pay stub.

Proof of Local, State or Federal Public Assistance (if applicable)

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • MassHealth Standard
  • MassHealth ConnectorCare Health Plan - Types 1, 2A, 2B, and 2C
  • Fuel Assistance/ LIHEAP
  • Women, Infant & Children (WIC) Nutritional Program
  • City of Newton Clause 41C – for older citizens
  • Community Care for Kids (CCK)
  • Early Head Start/Head Start (ABCD/QCAP)
  • FamilyAid, Newton
  • Veterans’ Service Benefits (CH 115)
  • MASSGrant
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children (TAFDC)
  • Emergency Aid to the Elderly, Disabled & Children (EAEDC)

Proof of Income (if income is less than $78,600/year and not receiving Public Assistance)

  • Federal tax return, pages 1 & 2

Proof of Disability (if ages 18-64, not receiving Public Assistance)

  • Current Disability placard from Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV)
  • Current MBTA Transportation Access Pass (TAP)
  • Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB) ID or Certificate of Blindness or MBTA Blind Access Charlie Card
  • Medicare, One Care, or Tufts Health Unify Card
  • Veteran benefits summary letter on VA letterhead specifying a disability rating of 70% or greater
  • Department of Mental Health (DMH) signed verification letter
  • Department of Developmental Services (DDS) signed verification letter
  • Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) signed verification letter
  • Current The Ride pass
  • Have a disability that a healthcare professional can certify: Disabilities requiring wheeled mobility, Semi-ambulatory disabilities, Severe neuromuscular/musculoskeletal conditions, Amputation of an extremity, Severe effects from a stroke, Severe pulmonary conditions, Severe cardiac conditions, Immunocompromised individuals, Low vision, Legally blind, Kidney dialysis treatment, Deaf or hard of hearing, Coordination disabilities, Intellectual disability, Epilepsy, Autism, Neurological disabilities, Psychiatric disabilities
