MBTA Youth Passes

The MBTA and the City of Newton are pleased to announce that Newton has joined the T’s Youth Pass program, which helps provide affordable transit access for young people with low-income. Click here for more information.

 

MBTA

  • Get T-Alert Tell the MBTA about your regular trips and receive text or email alerts that are relevant to you, at times when you want them. Alerts are available for every subway, bus, rail, or ferry line.
  • Subway service is available along the Green Line (Riverside). Newton stops include Riverside, Woodland, Waban, Eliot, Newton Highlands, Newton Centre, Chestnut Hill.
  • Commuter Rail service is available along the Worcester/Framingham line. Newton stops include Auburndale, West Newton and Newtonville.
  • Transit MapBus service:
    • 52: Watertown Yard to Dedham Mall via Centre Street, Parker Street, Dedham Street
    • 57: Watertown Yard to Kenmore via Tremont Street, Cambridge Street, Commonwealth Avenue
    • 59: Watertown Square to Needham Junction via Watertown Street, Walnut Street, Needham Street
    • 60: Chestnut Hill Mall to Kenmore via Boylston Street, Brookline Avenue
    • 501: Brighton to Back Bay and Downtown via Washington Street and Tremont Street, express on I-90
    • 504: Watertown Yard to Back Bay and Downtown via Galen Street, express on I-90
    • 505: Waltham to Downtown via Moody Street and Lexington Street, express on I-90
    • 553: Newton Corner to Brandeis/Roberts via Washington Street, Moody Street, South Street
    • 554: Newton Corner to Belmont via Washington Street, Moody Street, Beaver Street

MWRTA

Metrowest Regional Transit Authority (Map)

  • Fixed route and flag down bus service. Contact: 508-935-2222,
  • Route 1 - Service to Wellesley and Natick. Key stops: Woodland MBTA, Natick Mall
  • Route 8 - Service through Wellesley. Key stops: Newton Wellesley Hospital, Lower Falls, Woodland MBTA, Wellesley Whole Foods, Wellesley College, MassBay Community College, Wellesley Senior Center, Natick Community Center.

Seniors

  • Newton Senior Center - NewMo: This on demand, ride-share system for Newton residents 60+ years of age. NewMo runs from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday and from 9:00 a.m. -12noon on Saturday and Sunday. You can request trips to and from the senior center, medical appointments, houses of worship , grocery shopping, long-term care facilities within the City of Newton , any Newton village center, city-sponsored program or event, or building within the city, and to the Needham Street Corridor. An account must first be set up with Via. See Senior Transportation for more information.
  • MBTA Senior Charlie Card

Students

MBTA Student-rate Charlie Cards can be obtained in the front office at the middle schools (Bigelow, Brown, Day and Oak Hill) and high schools (NNHS and NSHS). Funds can then be deposited on the bus, or at any MBTA station with a Charlie card ticket machine. A student card is valid for one year, from Sept. 1st - Aug. 31st and a new one must be obtained each year. Paratransit

  • The Ride - MBTA’s door-to-door paratransit service, operated by the MBTA in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

128 Business Council Shuttle

  • Needham Shuttle – Key stops: Newton Highlands MBTA, 320 Needham St and Needham locations (Kenrick St, A St, 2nd Ave). Contact: 781-890-0093, 128bc@128bc.org.

Bike Share

  •  Bluebikes - For trips in and between Newton and participating neighboring municipalities.
