About Our Galleries 

The Newton City Galleries are a vital component to the cultural life of Newton.  Through these free art galleries, we aspire to engage diverse audiences and create a sense of community while providing a place for engagement, contemplation, and exchange of ideas.

The Newton City Hall Galleries and The Gallery @ 1294  are free and open spaces for artists to exhibit their artworks. Our goal is to display high quality, original artworks, with a preference given to local artists and organizations. This ongoing series of free public exhibitions highlights local artistic talent, reflects the City’s dedication to the arts, and it provides a space where visual artists can share their voice with the community.

The Community Gallery located on the first floor of city hall showcases community-based organizations and groups who would like to broaden their engagement with the community through the arts.

The Mayor's Gallery located on the second floor of city hall showcases fine artwork by local emerging and established artists.

Both galleries are open to the public during city hall business hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm.

The Gallery @ 1294 is located in the great room of the office of Cultural Development at 1294 Centre Street in Newton Centre.  This gallery is open by appointment only.

The Gallery Program:

• Provides opportunities for local and regional artists at all career levels to exhibit their artwork and ideas in a public venue.
• Provides resources, education, and artistic initiatives to support and serve individual artists and organizations in our community.
• Meets the public goal of enhancing the quality of life for visitors and residents,
• Supports the Office of Cultural Development’s efforts in strengthening our community and creating a greater sense of place.
