Hammond Pond Project Rendering

The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) with input from the City of Newton is undertaking the first phase of improvements to Hammond Pond Parkway from Beacon Street to the Route 9 ramps on the parkway. The Hammond Pond Parkway design will take a “complete streets” approach, which means that the parkway will be designed to prioritize safety, comfort, and access to all people who use the parkway. Improvements include a shared pathway for bike and pedestrian accommodations, reduction in travel lanes from a four lane to a two lane parkway from Beacon Street to The Shoppes at Chestnut Hill driveway, better access to City of Newton and DCR conservation areas, ADA compliant access, new streetlights, a redesign of the bridge over the MBTA tracks to better accommodate pedestrians and cyclists, and a new landscaped buffer between the roadway and the shared use path.

DCR is advertiing this project for construction on June 14th. and bid opening will be on July 19th.   DCR anticipates issuing a Notice to Proceed to the successful low bid Contractor in mid to late August 2023.
