The MBTA is expected to present 30% design plans to add accessible, double-sided platforms at the Auburndale, West Newton, and Newtonville Commuter Rail Stations at a public meeting this fall. Plans include making the the three stations accessible for all users and adding double-sided platforms to allow pickup and drop-off at the stations at all times of day.

The planned improvements will provide better rail service for Newton commuters and allow for the transition to electric trains in the future. In the interim, the MBTA agreed to add an additional express bus to Boston to provide better service to Newton.

City administration will continue to work closely with the MBTA throughout the project.
