The City of Newton has once again applied for a state grant under the Commonwealth’s Green Communities 2021 competitive  grant program. The City has successfully secured grants for the past six consecutive years (over $1.4 million so far). If the City is successful once again this year it will be awarded $100,000 in state funds. This will leverage an additional $39,000 in utility rebates. The three projects will save $26,774 annually in energy cost.

The three projects include Installation of LED lighting at NECP and South High School. The project scope also includes insulation and air sealing at Nonantum Library in preparation for converting the building from oil fired steam heating to high efficiency air source heat pumps as was done at Auburndale Community library in 2020, thus adding this to the list of city buildings that will be transformed to a fossil fuel free building.
