Procurement for the City of Newton, including its School Department, is centralized. The Purchasing Department is responsible for implementation and administration of all the City’s requisitions and bids, ensuring that purchases of goods and services are made in accordance with State law, City Ordinance and the City’s own Procedures are open, fair, competitive, and obtained at the lowest possible cost. The Department promotes the use of Commonwealth of Massachusetts contracts when appropriate and encourages participation of and outreach to minority, local and women-owned businesses.

The City does not currently accept electronic bids.

Bid list bidders will receives notice of these procedures by addendum, if and until life returns to the way it used to be.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Purchasing Department is to ensure that the supplies, equipment and services required for the functioning of municipal departments are delivered on a timely basis, at the best price and in compliance with applicable regulations. The Purchasing Department also includes the City Print Shop which is committed to producing, in a cost effective manner, quality printed materials for use and distribution by City departments.
