These projects have submitted pre-proposals for public discussion by the CPC but have not yet submitted full proposals for CPC public hearings and funding votes.
Pre-Proposals Submitted to the CPC
- West Newton Cinema, 1296 Washington Street, West Newton - The West Newton Cinema Foundation requests $53,000 in Historic Resource Funding to undertake a feasibility study for the rehabilitation of the historic cinema, with the goal of supporting film programming, arts education, and live performance for Newton and the greater Boston community. The pre-proposal was reviewed by the CPC at their February 13 meeting and the applicants invited to submit a full proposal when the path to site control was clear.

- First Baptist Church Bell Tower Preservation Project, 848 Beacon Street, Newton Corner (Historic Resource) - The First Baptist Church is requesting $1.75 million in CPA Historic Resource funds to help in the preservation and restoration of the historic Bell Tower at the corner of Beacon and Centre Street. The work would restore the structural integrity of the historic tower which is an original and significant architectural element of the ca. 1888 Richardson Romanesque building designed by John Lyman Faxon and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The pre-proposal was reviewed by the CPC at their September 12 meeting and the applicants invited to submit a full proposal when ready.
- Family Access Davis School Renovation Project (492 Waltham Street, West Newton) - Family ACCESS requests $800,000 in Historic Resource funding to preserve the integrity of the former Davis School, a ca. 1921 Colonial Revival style building designed by Crissman & Solomon Architects of Watertown, while also renovating the building to provide adequate, building code compliant egress and sprinkler systems and improved accessibility. The building is the home of Family Access, a nonprofit which provides childcare, preschool and other family centered programs in the historic former school. The pre-proposal was reviewed by the CPC at their August 8 meeting and Family Access was invited to submit a full proposal to the for review at a future meeting.
